Fresh reports linking Liverpool with double raid on Premier League rivals

Will Liverpool move for Aston Villa duo Ron Vlaar and Fabian Delph in the January transfer window…

The Daily Star is the latest newspaper to link Liverpool with moves for Aston Villa duo Ron Vlaar and Fabian Delph, who are both out of contract next summer, and could be available at the right price.

According to the report, the Reds are planning a £15m January raid, as they look to tempt their Premier League rivals into a quick-fire sale after the turn of the year.

England midfielder Delph and Dutch defender Vlaar are both popular figures at Villa Park, and manager Paul Lambert has spoken openly about his desire to keep the pair, but the media is continuing to suggest that he is fighting a losing battle.

Although the Midlands club has been in contract talks with the duo since last summer, neither has indicated he is willing to sign new terms, and it is thought the club would struggle to turn down a substantial offer.

However, even if Villa agree to sell Kop boss Brendan Rodgers faces a huge battle to sign either player, as any agreement is likely to stir up interest from other clubs.

Spurs are also monitoring developments surrounding Delph, 25, while Man Utd, Southampton and Arsenal are chasing centre-half Vlaar, 29.
