Liverpool are preparing a January bid for Lazio’s Ogenyi Onazi, with Fabio Borini going the other way…

Liverpool are reportedly preparing an ambitious January swoop for Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi, and hope to secure a deal that involves striker Fabio Borini joining the Italian club in part-exchange.

According to the Daily Express, Brendan Rodgers’ side will offer Borini and a sum of around £8m, meaning the overall value of the transfer for the highly rated Onazi will be around the £20m mark.

The Reds are desperate for more strength in the centre of the park, and Kop boss Rodgers has identified the 22-year-old as the man to help the Reds storm back up the Premier League table. Rodgers tracked Onazi in the summer, but instead opted for Emre Can.

As the source continues, the Nigeria international is a key man for the Serie A club, but Liverpool are looking to take advantage of Lazio’s long-term interest in Borini.

While there is still plenty standing in the way of this deal, including Borini’s former allegiance to Lazio’s arch-rivals Roma, it seems  Liverpool are at least ready to revive their interest and see if a deal is possible.
