Transfer guru Di Marzio claims Liverpool & Juventus will battle for Xherdan Shaqiri

Would the Swiss playmaker boost Reds?

Italian football journalist Gianluca di Marzio, a regular commenter on the transfer window, reckons that Juventus have joined us in the race to sign Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri.

The 23-year-old is a superb talent, but doe to the brilliant playmakers already on the books with the Bundesliga champions, Shaqiri finds it very difficult to get game time in Germany.

Naturally, a number of clubs have been credited with an interest in his services – namely ourselves, Manchester United and now Serie A champions Juventus.

If Shaqiri proved to be available in January, as is being mooted – it would be wise to pursue his signature – even if a loan deal was the only option.

He’s feisty, technically exceptional, and scores goals – as proven by his World Cup hat-trick during the summer.

If we continue with the 3-4-3 formation, Shaqiri would fit perfectly in one of the advanced midfield roles – and be a fantastic rotation/replacement option for Coutinho and Adam Lallana.

Whether he’d favour a move to England or to Italy though remains unknown, although he is very keen to move and get first-team football.
