Steven Gerrard’s five greatest Liverpool goals

Relive some of Gerrard’s best moments, here…

On the day our legendary captain announced that he’ll be leaving Liverpool in summer 2015, we fished out five of his most memorable and best strikes for the club…

Let’s hope he adds at least one more beauty to his collection before he heads to the MLS…

5) Versus Manchester United, 2001:

A Gerrard thunderbolt, and against Manchester United, too. Poor Fabien Barthez didn’t stand a chance.

4) Versus AC Milan, 2005:

Scroll to one minute in to see Gerrard’s brilliant header, which got us back in the game on arguably the greatest night in Liverpool’s history.

3) Versus Middlesbrough, 2005

Technically, probably Gerrard’s best Liverpool strike. We didn’t realise before finding this clip that Brad Jones, our current goalkeeping understudy, was the unfortunate victim!

2) Versus Olympiakos, 2004

Has a half-volley ever been struck more sweetly? And has a piece of commentary ever gone so beautifully with a last minute super-strike? No, and no.

1) Versus West Ham, 2006

If this goal had been in a film script, it would have been sent back for being too cliche. FA Cup final; the captain fires in from near 40 yards during injury time to force the game into Extra Time. This really did happen!
