Raheem Sterling will miss Sunderland clash as he continues extended break

Raheem Sterling has been given an extended winter break by manager Brendan Rodgers…

Liverpool have allowed 20-year-old forward Raheem Sterling an extended winter break as he looks to recover from a busy first-half of the season, which has already seen him play 34 games for club and country.

Reports in the Daily Mirror confirm that Kop boss Brendan Rodgers has taken the decision to allow Sterling to remain in Jamaica, and hopes that the player will be re-energised on his return to Anfield.

Sterling has been in the West Indies to recharge his batteries, and will definitely miss today’s league match with Sunderland – having already missed out on the FA Cup clash with AFC Wimbledon.

According to the source, Sterling was born in Kingston on the Caribbean island and lived there until moving to England at the age of four, but is due back at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground next week.

Sterling’s absence means there have been no further talks on his new contract offer from Liverpool – despite some reports to the contrary. Rodgers is desperate to persuade him to stay and fend off strong interest from Real Madrid.
