Jon Flanagan closing on a return, and will battle Alberto Moreno for a starting spot…

English fullback Jon Flanagan is closing on a return from the injury which has kept him out of the whole season.

“I’ve got in the team before and kept my place. Now I need to do that again,” he told the club’s official website.

“When I saw that we signed two full-backs, I immediately thought ‘I need to up my game now’. I know I need to consistently do well if I’m to get in the team and then stay there.

“I want to keep developing as a footballer. That’s why not being available has been so frustrating. But competition for places doesn’t bother me. I’m always up for the fight.”

Ezequiel Lavezzi is available for £8m this January, and we’re leading the race for his signature…

The Argentine is surplus to requirements at PSG, having been left out of the squad for the past three matches, and recently fined for a disciplinary issue.

For the £8m mooted fee, this would be a bargain signing, right?

Fabio Borini is desperate to stay at Liverpool, and wants to do so beyond this month at least…

The Italian work-horse is still determined to prove his worth at Anfield…

He’s not had much playing time this season, but the 23-year-old started versus Sunderland at the weekend, and is hoping to do so again away to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Borini’s agent Marco De Marchi, who also represents Werder Bremen defender Luca Caldirola, said: “Borini and Caldirola will not return to Italy in January. I’m happy with Liverpool and Werder Bremen – the teams where they now play.”

Liverpool want Sardar Azmoun, Iranian wonderkid…

Azmoun is a 20-year-old Iranian winger, and with Russia club Rubin Kazan in perilous financial difficulties, he could be available for as little as £5m.

He is by no means the finished product, but the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham have also been registered with an interest in his services.

Fernando Muslera is a Liverpool target

According to Turkish reports, we’re readying a €10m bid for Galatasaray and Uruguay no.1 Fernando Muslera, to replace out of form Belgian Simon Mignolet.

However, Gala want double that for the 27-year-old keeper, and if we are interested, we’d have to fight off AC Milan for his services as well.

Jose Enrique could leave Liverpool, with Crystal Palace considering a loan deal…

New Palace boss Alan Pardew has made signing our Spanish left-back Jose Enrique on loan a primary January target.

The 28-year-old has only made two Premier League starts in 2014/15, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Brendan Rodgers allowed the transfer, rendering Enrique surplus to requirements.
