LFC Xtra recently counted down the top ten of all time, and here they are again…

10) Maxi Rodriguez

The Argentine, who became something of a cult figure at Anfield, played 72 games for Liverpool between 2009 and 2012, scoring 17 times and helping the Reds win the League Cup.

9) Alan A’Court

Made 381 appearances for the club, finding the net on 63 occasions in the 1950s and 60s. Finished his playing career with Tranmere and Norwich. He sadly passed away in 2009.

8) Raheem Sterling

The 20-year-old promises to be one of the best players to emerge from Liverpool’s youth team setup for many years. Already a key man for both club and country, his potential is endless.

7) Steve McManaman

Featured in 364 games for Liverpool, scoring 66 goals before moving to Real Madrid in 1999. He won both the FA Cup and the League Cup during his time with the Reds.

6) Ray Houghton

Won the first division title twice, as well as the FA Cup twice, the midfielder played 153 games for the club before moving to Aston Villa in 1992, where he won the League Cup.

5) Peter Thompson

He won nine major honours during his time with Liverpool, which most came in the 1960s. He played 322 games, scoring 41 goals, before finishing his career with Bolton.

4) Ian Callaghan

Liverpool’s record appearance holder with 857 games in all competitions. The iconic star played for the club for almost two decades, before retiring with Crewe in 1982.

3) Steve Heighway

The Irish star made 329 league appearances between 1970-1981, scoring 50 goals. He was part of the team that won two European Cups and 15 major honours in total.

2) John Barnes

Signed from Watford in 1987, Barnes played 314 league games for Liverpool between 1987-1997, scoring an impressive 84 goals. He won eight major honours.

1) Billy Liddell

Liddell was a Liverpool player from 1938 until 1961, a period only interrupted by the Second World War. He scored 215 goals in 492 league games, proving himself to be one of our best players ever.
