Fabio Borini is hoping to have another opportunity to play at Wembley this season…
Liverpool striker Fabio Borini believes that success in the cup competitions this season will help transform Brendan Rodgers’ team of promising young stars into men.
The Reds have been in fine form in the cup competitions so far this season – progressing to the semi-final of the Capital One Cup, drawing 1-1 in the first leg against Chelsea earlier this week, while also reaching the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Borini knows the next few days could be crucial in shaping the remainder of our season, as we take on Bolton at Anfield today, before travelling to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, but is confident that we’ll be tasting success.
He told Liverpool’s official website: “Last year I had the fortune to be in the final of the Capital One Cup [with Sunderland]. The FA Cup is a hard cup to get to the final of because you play so many games against many different kinds of teams. You cannot expect anything.
“I know how important it is in England to win the FA Cup and it can take you to the next stage. Winning a trophy for Liverpool at this stage is very important.”
The Italian is looking to continue a decent run of form, after scoring his first goal of the season in last weekend’s win over Aston Villa. The 23-year-old has started two of our last three games and is eager to continue impressing.
Discussing the upcoming game, he added: “It is always hard to play against a lower-division club in England. They will put all of their hard work and all the passion they possibly can into it, and against Liverpool at Anfield is even more exciting for them. If we equal that, we can win the game.
“It will be physical, but if we can play our football – as we did against Chelsea – we can get the win. We need to have the right mentality.”
