Liverpool edge closer to stadium expansion after planning permission granted.
The plans to increase the capacity of Anfield have taken another step forward with news that a proposal for an electricity substation near the ground has been approved.

The Echo claim that despite objections on the grounds of health and safety – the substation will be on the grounds of former Anfield Comprehensive School on Priory Road, next to a tyre business – the application has been given the green light.
Councillor Steve Radford felt that the substation would be better built either on the stadium grounds, or in a different place altogether, but planning officer John Hayes argued the Liverpool FC & Athletic Grounds Ltd case.
“Given the landscaping and planning recommendations we are happy that it would be screened reasonably successfully and would not prevent further development on the site,” Hayes told the Echo.
It’s fair to say we’ve been pretty patient on a new stadium. In February 2007, when Hicks and Gillett took over the club, they promised a shovel in the ground within 60 days.
Eight years later, and we’ve still not seen any sign of a spade.
