That’s according to reports in the Daily Express, who claim that the Reds are set to beat Chelsea and Tottenham to the 22-year-old forward, whose contract expires in the summer.

Ings has scored seven goals this season and the Clarets are desperate to keep hold of him while they attempt to fight off relegation, but selling now means they will get a transfer fee rather than lose him for nothing.

Brendan Rodgers and the Anfield staff will sweeten the deal by offering to loan Ings back to Burnley for the rest of the campaign. This news comes less than 24 hours after Dyche admitted the player could leave the club.

“There’s just been contact – constant contact, but we all know where we stand,” said Dyche. “I think contractual situations are private to players. We try and entrust in our players and our relationships with them.

“Danny’s made it clear he’s going to be here until the end of the season, we’ve made it clear he’s going to be here until the end of the season. After that, who knows – watch this space. He wants to be here. He’s made that clear.”

Real Sociedad are also interested in Ings, with former Manchester United boss David Moyes – now in charge at the Spanish club – having watched him play against Liverpool on Boxing Day.
