Burnley have rejected media speculation that a deal has been reached between themselves and Liverpool…

Burnley have rubbished reports claiming that Liverpool are on the verge of signing striker Danny Ings. The rumours, which first emerged late last night, stated that Ings would join the Reds this month before being loaned back to the Clarets until the end of the season.

Reports claim Liverpool will sign Danny Ings and loan him back to Burnley
Liverpool fans on Twitter are not especially happy at the Danny Ings news…

The Guardian suggested that Brendan Rodgers was close to striking a deal for the 22-year-old forward, who has also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur and David Moyes’ Real Sociedad.

Ings, who has scored seven times so far this season, is in the final six months of his current contract and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, despite Burnley’s best efforts to tie him down.

However, in a club statement made on their official website, Sean Dyche’s side reiterated their unmoving stance on the player: “Following growing media speculation, Burnley Football Club would like to reiterate their stance regarding striker Danny Ings.

“Ings has been heavily linked in the past 24 hours with a permanent move to Liverpool, with the suggestion that he would then be loaned back to the club for the remainder of the campaign.

“This kind of deal is prohibited by the Premier League under rule V7 which states that a player cannot be purchased and loaned back between Premier League clubs in the same transfer window.”

Liverpool have arguably been short on fire-power up front for much of the season, having lost Luis Suarez to Barcelona in the summer, while Daniel Sturridge has been out since August with a recurring injury problem.

This has left Rodgers with just Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini to pick from, while Raheem Sterling has regularly been deployed as a makeshift centre forward and Divock Origi will join from Lille OSC at the end of the season.

With Ings’ deal expiring in the summer, we can’t rule out the possibility that we will look to sign him on a free transfer, but he is presently not allowed to speak to clubs in England.
