Liverpool’s 5 most hated current opposition players, following Diego Costa’s double stamp

GK) Simon Mignolet

The Liverpool goalkeeper was excellent against Chelsea in mid-week, making several excellent saves to deny Diego Costa. He’s only conceded six goals in nine games since returning to the side and is growing in confidence.

RCB) Emre Can

The midfielder turned defender has continued to improve since his inclusion in the back three. While he’ll be pleased to see the back of Diego Costa, he could have his hands full with Andy Carroll.

LCB) Glen Johnson

Mamadou Sakho’s injury was thankfully not as bad as first feared and he’ll be back in training later today. The Frenchman is unlikely to be fit enough to start but he could still make the bench, with Johnson starting instead.

CB) Martin Skrtel

Liverpool’s most consistent defender throughout Brendan Rodgers time in charge, he was excellent again against Chelsea. He’ll have plenty to think about though as the Hammers load balls into the box.

DM) Lucas Leiva

What a revelation the Brazilian has been – excellent again against Chelsea in mid-week in his defensive midfield role. He does all the dirty work and keeps things moving for his teammates. One of the first names on the team-sheet.

MR) Lazar Markovic

Will be disappointed not to have shone more against Chelsea and will hope that West Ham’s back-line offer him more of a chance to shine as he pushes forward down the right hand side.

ML) Alberto Moreno

Excellent on Tuesday evening and unlikely to find his spot in the team under threat. The Spaniard’s attacking prowess is becoming an increasingly valuable asset to Brendan Rodgers, so expect to see more of it here.

CM) Jordan Henderson

Henderson will take over the captaincy in Gerrard’s absence. He has performed admirably whilst wearing the armband so far this season and will hope to drive Liverpool forward again here from the heart of midfield.

RAM) Adam Lallana

Didn’t even manage to get on the pitch at Stamford Bridge so due a chance here. With Gerrard having played 120 minutes on Tuesday he’s likely to be rested to the bench. Lallana needs to produce to get his name back in the mix for a regular starting spot.

LAM) Philippe Coutinho

The Brazilian has been in supreme form for the last couple of months and will hope to act as West Ham’s tormentor in chief. No doubt he’s looking forward to when Daniel Sturridge starts sticking away some of the chances he creates.

ST) Raheem Sterling

Daniel Sturridge is unlikely to come straight back into the starting line-up, but perhaps he will be fit enough for the substitutes bench. Either way, Sterling will be starting through the middle and looking to grab his second of the season against the Hammers.
