Carroll stokes the fires pre-top flight clash…

Liverpool’s record signing Andy Carroll, who famously cost us a barbaric £35m back in 2011, has come out in heavy criticism of Brendan Rodgers, the man who sanctioned his departure to West Ham.

“He’d say, ‘you’re going to play every week, you’re going to play every game with Suarez up front,'” Carroll began.

“I’d leave and get home and he’d ring me and say, ‘Fulham and West Ham want you, I think it’s best you should go’ when I’d just had a different conversation with him 10 minutes ago.

“I’d go back to see him and he’d say the opposite again. It was the same thing, round and round.”

“He was telling me one thing to my face and then ring me and tell me a different thing. He was messing with my head.

“I thought, ‘I just want to play football. I don’t need this.’ I lost respect for him to be honest and knew it was time to go.”

Carroll made 44 top flight appearances for us, but scored just six goals – and eventually left to join today’s opponents West Ham permanently, where injuries have blighted his progress.

  1. Selective hearing Mr Carroll. What BR actually said was ‘If you learn to play football and show us why the hell we paid £35m for a sick note who can’t fit into any team not built around him, you’re gonna play every week….’
