Most Premier League assists since January 2013: Two Liverpool stars make top 8

Can one of our stars climb to the top of this table before the summer…?

On hearing the news that Philippe Coutinho has signed a new deal, Sky Sports ranked the midfielder in terms of Premier League assists since 2013, when he arrived at the club from Inter Milan.

He, as well as our legendary captain, are in decent company.

=4) Samir Nasri – Manchester City – 15 assists

The rather unlikeable Frenchman was part of both of City’s title triumphs, and when he’s fit, he still gets in the side today. Interestingly, he’s made more assists in this period of time than his more lauded teammate David Silva.

=4) STEVEN GERRARD – LIVERPOOL – 15 assists

Last term, Gerrard notched 13 assists, the most in the top flight – but he’s been less effective in terms of out and out chance making this season. This is perhaps because he hasn’t had the movement of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez to serve from deep, hence why he was moved out of the anchoring midfield role he adopted in 2013/14 in favour of Lucas. Gerrard’s got six months left with us (feels horrible to write, even now), and let’s hope he can stay fit, and use his wonderful vision to assist and score some more goals before he departs.

=4) Cesc Fabregas – Chelsea – 15 assists

This is pretty ridiculously impressive, considering the fact that since January 2013, Fabregas has only been played six months of Premier League football. Since he made his big money move from Barcelona in summer 2014, he’s registered 15 assists – the most in European football this term. Most of these have come from set-pieces, though.

=4) Leighton Baines – Everton – 15 assists

The Everton fullback has a decent left-foot, and likes getting up his flank and delivering crosses into the box. He’s declining though, and just three this campaign for our struggling rivals.

3) COUTINHO – LIVERPOOL – 16 assists

It’s great to see our Brazilian playmaker, who’s recently signed a long-term deal, high up on this list… Since arriving at Anfield, no other Liverpool player has registered more assists than the 22-year-old, who in recent months has been our stand out offensive player. Expect more assists to come now Coutinho has Daniel Sturridge to feed up top again.

=2) Wayne Rooney – Manchester United – 17 assists

Man United’s overpaid skipper is deployed in a slightly more creative role now, as his lack of pace and drop of dribbling ability means our rival’s prefer other options as out and strikers. Still, he does it will.

=2) Eden Hazard – Chelsea – 17 assists

Chelsea’s irritating Belgian is irritatingly pretty good, unfortunately for us. He’s probably the best winger in the top flight, but if he carries on at this rate – Real Madrid or Barcelona will take him off Jose Mourinho’s hands!

1) Santi Cazorla – Arsenal – 19 assists

Arsenal’s talented Spaniard is out in front, but we hope that Coutinho might be able to catch him before the end of the season. Cazorla has plenty more assists than Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil, who was signed in summer 2013 to compete with him in attacking midfield.
