Brendan Rodgers has admitted that we’ll have to wait and see whether Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva will be able to return to the Liverpool team in the near future.

Lucas limped off after just 16 minutes of the Merseyside derby against Everton, having suffered a recurrence of the problem that kept him out of Wednesday’s trip to Bolton in the FA Cup.

The 28-year-old pulled up holding his groin and is now set to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the damage.

Rodgers, who was quoted by Liverpool’s official website, said: “We’ll just have to assess it.

“He had a slight problem with his adductor – that’s why he missed the last game [at Bolton]. He felt it again there, so we’ll see what the scan says on that.”

Lucas is now a major doubt for our game against top four rivals Tottenham on Tuesday evening. That means Joe Allen, who replaced him for the game against Bolton and came on against Everton, will be favourite to start.
