Daniel Sturridge is ‘better than Harry Kane’ insists Brendan Rodgers

The Boss weighs in on the great Harry Kane debate…

Brendan Rodgers has been stoking the fires ahead of our crucial, top four clash with Tottenham Hotspur tonight by claiming that Daniel Sturridge is a better striker than Harry Kane.

The 21 year old Spurs man has been getting plenty of plaudits and definitely showed our defenders just how dangerous he can be with his two goals against Arsenal at the weekend.

And Kane’s lack of an England call-up has dominated headlines since as he’s yet to receive a call from Roy Hodgson.

However, when asked about the impressive forward ahead of the clash with Spurs, Brendan Rodgers has said our man is still number one for both club and country.

“For me, there is not anyone better than Daniel Sturridge,” he said, reports Independent. “He has got everything in his game if he is playing consistently – goalscoring record, pace, power. As an English striker, there is nobody better.

“But I am sure Daniel will look at it that there is another young English striker coming through and that will really help him when they come together at international level.”

Of course, this season you’d have to say Kane has certainly been the man in better form – though that’s hardly surprising given how much time Sturridge has spent on the sidelines since he was injured on international duty.

In fact, although Kane is certainly deserving of a call-up, perhaps he should hold off his England debut for as long as possible. After all, all Roy Hodgson seems to be able to do with young, striking talents from these shores is cause them long-term injury.

If Sturridge had been fit for any of the games following our 3-0 win at White Hart Lane in August until his return against West Ham, we most likely wouldn’t find ourselves four points behind Spurs in the race for the Champions League.

However, given our current place in the table, we certainly need a victory tonight to make our task of qualifying for Europe’s elite competition again this season a whole lot simpler.
