52-year-old amateur photographer Jónína G. Óskarsdóttir was taking snaps of the aurora borealis on Saturday evening when she noticed the shape of a bird.

However, it wasn’t until a friend involved in local football saw the snap that they noticed the similarity to the symbolic Anfield bird.

“Because it was taken before the game against Manchester City, people thought it was a big sign,” said Óskarsdóttir, reports Liverpool Echo.

“I am not a proper fan so I couldn’t see it – I’ve taken a look so I can see it but I wasn’t thinking about it when I was taking the photo.”

A bird has been associated with Liverpool since medieval times when it appeared on the City’s seal.

The lights certainly foreshadowed something just as beautiful with Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson ensuring victory over the Premier League champions at the weekend with some quite incredible long-range strikes.

We’ll see if the team can continue their good form this week as we head to Burnley tomorrow night looking to put pressure once more on the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Southampton and Man City in the race for the top four.
