We currently sit in sixth position, two points adrift of Manchester United in fourth. We could even take their place in a Champions League spot later today, if we win and they lose at Newcastle.

However, Burnley aren’t likely to go down without a fight on Merseyside, despite picking up just 22 points so far this season – a tally which currently has them sitting in 19th place.

The Clarets have proved that they’re more than capable of picking up results against the bigger teams, having already drawn with Chelsea, Man United and Manchester City this season, and they have players that are worth watching out for. Here are the five that we’ve identified as potential danger-men:

5) Michael Keane (Defender)

The 22-year-old began his career with Manchester United, graduation from their youth academy in 2011. He only ever made one league appearance for the Red Devils, but has proved himself a Premier League quality defender so far this season, turning his loan move into a permanent one during the January transfer window.

4) Ashley Barnes (Forward)

Barnes proved against Chelsea that he’s not afraid to mix it with the big-name players. It was his tackle that enraged the usually calm and collected Nemanja Matic, enticing him into the shove that earned him a red card and cost him his place in the League Cup final. Barnes has featured 25 times this season, chipping in with five goals.

3) Jason Shackell (Defender, Captain)

Burnley’s captain has consistently been a source of inspiration for them so far this season. The 31-year-old, who joined the Clarets from Derby County in 2012, has played in 27 Premier League games for his side so far this season. His only other Premier League experience came for Norwich City way back in the 2004-05 season.

2) George Boyd (Midfielder)

Few have been able to top the endeavour and work-ethic of the industrious midfielder in recent months. The versatile 29-year-old midfielder has done a respectable job in any position his manager has trialled in him, while he’s also scored four goals in his 24 appearances. He needs to be tightly marked in tonight’s game.

1) Danny Ings (Striker)

This will be a name that is extremely familiar to Liverpool fans, following the rumours – such as this one – from both the January transfer window, and looking ahead to next summer. The 22-year-old striker has scored nine league goals in 24 games so far this season, while he netted an impressive 26 in all competitions last year.
