Brendan Rodgers has discouraged the consistent comparisons between club captain Steven Gerrard and his more than impressive stand-in Jordan Henderson…

Speaking ahead of our FA Cup fixture at home to Blackburn at the weekend, where Henderson will continue to wear the armband in Gerrard’s absence through injury – Rodgers reminded the public that the skipper’s understudy has a lot to do before he can be mentioned in the same breath.

“You should stop trying to put pressure on a young player such as Jordan Henderson. Because he takes a corner and Steven Gerrard takes a corner, he’s not the new Steven Gerrard.

“Because he shoots from outside the box, he’s not the new Steven Gerrard. He’s Jordan Henderson, and he’s creating his own headlines.
