Liverpool have regularly been linked with a move for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette…

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has moved to cool talk of the club selling Alexandre Lacazette this summer, despite a mass of interest in the striker from across Europe.

His comments contrast to those made by the player himself earlier this week, in which the 23-year-old striker would be open to moving on if Lyon decided they wanted to cash in on his excellent season.

According to the Daily Mirror, the player said: “If the president asks me to leave, I’ll have to leave the club.”

However, Aulas has now responded directly to Lacazette, saying: “Impossible. He will be with us at the (new) Stade des Lumieres and in the Champions League.”

Lacazette has scored 25 goals in 30 games so far this season, including a hugely impressive 21 in 24 in Ligue 1. He scored in every match he played in between the start of December and the end of January, a run that included 13 goals in nine games.

His impressive strike-rate has inspired Lyon to the top of the league table, ahead of the likes of Paris Saint Germain and AS Monaco. The French giants have not won the title since 2008 – the year that saw the last of their seven consecutive titles.
