It’s the first time since mid-January that the Reds have not had a mid-week fixture to contend with, in addition to their league duties, and Rodgers is keen to ensure that he takes full advantage.

The Northern Irishman wants his squad to be well-rested before they start preparing for their match-up against his former employers, with three points crucial for maintaining out pursuit of the top four.

Despite last weekend’s FA Cup draw with Blackburn Rovers – which has ensured the Reds will have yet another game to contend with – it has been an incredibly positive start to the year for Rodgers and Liverpool, who remain unbeaten in the league since mid-December.

Speaking about his plans for the Swansea clash, Rodgers, who was quoted by our official website, said:

“The players have two days off now after everything that they have put in over this period.

“And they deserve that because they have put so much effort into getting us into the position that we’re in. But after that, we’ll recover and be ready to go again.”

“Swansea is another big game for us and we want to continue performing to the level that has allowed us to pick up the number of points that we have.

“They deserve a rest, but we’ll get ready after those couple of days and look forward to the next game.”
