The Reds’ captain has sat out seven games in all competitions, but hopes to be included in Monday’s crucial Premier League clash against Swansea City, as we step up our pursuit of a place in next season’s Champions League.

During his time out of the team, Gerrard has seen his teammates continue their wonderful run of domestic form, rising to fifth place in the table and closing the gap to fourth place Manchester United to just two points.

Gerrard, who was quoted by our official website, said: “I’ve just got over the hamstring injury and I am fit and available for the next game.

“I want to finish [this season] really strong. I want to leave the team in the top four and hopefully go all the way in the FA Cup, that’ll be how I want to sign off.”

The 34-year-old was of course powerless to prevent our exit from the Europa League at the hands of Besiktas a fortnight ago, but will have been pleased to see us maintain our interest in the FA Cup thanks to a goalless draw against Blackburn Rovers.

With the final of the competition taking place on his 35th birthday, the skipper will no doubt be itching to get back involved and ensure that his final game for his boyhood club takes place at Wembley.
