Firmino, 23, won his first caps for Brazil last year, appearing twice and scoring in the friendly against Austria. He’s bagged eight goals in all competitions for his club side so far this season, while he netted 22 last term.

Arsenal have also been linked with the attacking midfielder, who has previously been tipped as a possible replacement for Santi Cazorla. According to the Metro, both clubs are set to go head-to-head in the summer.

Alves, 31, has been an integral part of Barcelona’s side since joining from Sevilla in 2008, winning 16 major honours, including two Champions League titles.

The 79-time Brazilian international has been linked with a whole host of clubs from across Europe over recent months, with his contract with the Catalans set to expire at the end of the season.

According to the Metro, Liverpool are set to join Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain in the race for his signature.

In terms of the reality of either of these moves coming off, Firmino looks the far more likely target, considering his age and potential – factors that have feature heavily in Brendan Rodgers’ previous signings – although Alves could also prove a decent addition on a short-term deal.
