Ranking the 10 returning Liverpool stars we’re most excited about seeing on Sunday

It’s almost here… Who will you be supporting on Sunday – Team Gerrard or Team Carragher?

Two all-star teams led by Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher go head-to-head on Sunday for the Anfield charity match, which will feature a mix of ex-Liverpool players and other iconic figures from around the game.

Among the returning Anfield stars will be both Champions League winners and other former favourites. But we want to know who are you most excited about seeing run out and play in front of the Kop one final time?

We’ve ranked our own choices in the list below…

10) Jonjo Shelvey

A well-liked character at Anfield, who many supporters were sad to see leave for Swansea back in 2013. He’s been well received each time he’s returned since, and always seems to produce something interesting when he does.

9) Ryan Babel

This isn’t really a game where people are going to be trying to prove themselves, but if there was someone who might want to show what he can do, it’s the Dutchman, who never quite lived up to all his hype at Anfield.

8) Pepe Reina

Liverpool’s greatest goalkeeper of the Premier League era. The Spaniard was never really able to say a proper farewell to the fans after his Reds career came to a surprise end, so this will be the perfect opportunity.

=7) Craig Bellamy & John Arne Riise

We couldn’t separate these two! It’s hard not to be excited about the prospect of these two coming face to face again. Both were excellent players for Liverpool in their own right, but who can forget that famous night in the Camp Nou…

6) Harry Kewell

It’s hard to believe that it’s Dirk Kuyt and Raul Meireles who are set to miss this game through injury, rather than this ever-unreliable Australian. Despite his issues, Kewell was a decent player, and should be welcomed back. Remember that volley against Spurs? We do.

5) Jamie Carragher

We almost forgot to include our former vice-captain, who’s still seen so regularly – usually in his role as a TV pundit for Sky – that we sometimes forget he’s gone. Nonetheless, it’ll be great to see him back in his element! You know he’ll consider winning of vital importance, which will make it all the more fun.

4) Luis Garcia

One of the heroes of 2005. The Spaniard was rightly adored by us Liverpool fans, and we’re sure we’re not alone in being excited by the prospect of his return. Still only 36, he should have plenty to offer as well!

3) Luis Suarez

It’ll be a bitter-sweet moment for us to see the charismatic striker running out at Anfield again, because it’s hard not to imagine the job he could still be doing for us. Still, now’s the chance for him to show off all he’s learned at Barca!

2) Fernando Torres

A bit of a strange one, but the intrigue behind the Spaniard’s upcoming return is enough to place him high up on our list. Will he get a good reception? Will he be booed? The reality is likely to be somewhere in the middle, but only time will tell…

1) Xabi Alonso

What a treat! Alonso is still very much at the top of his game, as he’s shown since leaving Real Madrid for Bayern Munich last summer. To see him link up with Steven Gerrard in the midfield one final time will be a joy for us all.
