Gerrard seems to have far stronger options than his old friend Carragher…

Despite two England fixtures upcoming, all Liverpool fans are looking forward to this weekend is the mouthwatering All-Star Charity Match between a Steven Gerrard XI and a Jamie Carragher XI this Sunday afternoon.

Returning heroes such as Xabi Alonso, Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres will be turning out for our captain’s side, alongside current stars such as Glen Johnson and Brad Jones – as well as huge profile fantasy pick Thierry Henry. John Terry will be turning out at centre-back, and is the only player guaranteed a pretty ropey reception from the Anfield faithful.

Carragher’s squad is a little less star-studded, but Didier Drogba and Gael Clichy prove interesting options – as do former cult heroes Luis Garcia, Alvaro Arbeola and Craig Bellamy.

With players of such immense quality on both sides, it will be interesting to see how seriously the game is taken, and whether tricksters such as Ryan Babel, Joao Carlos Teieira and Mario Balotelli will be able to put on a real show for the adoring crowd.

With Steven Gerrard leaving in the summer, the match has been mooted as an unofficial testimonial for the skipper – who will hope for a happier afternoon than the 38 seconds he endured last Sunday…
