Liverpool transfer news
Who do you think has the advantage based on these two teams?
Steven Gerrard XI:
GK) Brad Jones
Liverpool’s current number two, who will make his long-awaited return from injury in this game.
RB) Glen Johnson
Another member of the current squad who’s been short on first-team action in recent weeks.
LB) John Arne Riise
The powerful left back will no doubt be trying to steal at least one free-kick away from his captain!
CB) John Terry
The long-serving Chelsea captain is still one of the best players for his position in the country.
CB) Ashley Williams
One of Brendan Rodgers’ former favourites from his time at Swansea City, should complete a solid back line.
CM) Steven Gerrard
The captain, back at Anfield for the first time since his controversial red card against Manchester United.
CM) Xabi Alonso
A former Anfield favourite, who still oozes class. People will be clamouring to see the Spaniard turn on the style.
RM) Ryan Babel
An enterprising winger who still has a point to prove after struggling to live up to his potential at Anfield.
LM) Thierry Henry
The iconic Arsenal striker will have plenty of help up front, but will surely be looking to get in amongst the goals.
ST) Luis Suarez
The Reds’ star man over the last few years, now with Barcelona. He’s likely to be welcomed back with open arms.
ST) Fernando Torres
It could be a very different reception for the Spaniard, who’ll hope that he’s finally been forgiven for his 2011 exit.
Jamie Carragher XI:
GK) Pepe Reina
One of Liverpool’s greatest ever goalkeepers, the popular Spaniard will receive a great reception from the Kop.
RB) Alvaro Arbeloa
Another ex-Liverpool player hailing from Spain, the Real Madrid right-back adds some solidity to this back four.
LB) Gael Clichy
The Manchester City man has been in and out of his club side’s starting team this season, but has plenty of quality.
CB) Jamie Carragher
The captain, eager to get one over on his long-time teammate and friend. He’ll have to be at his best to stop him!
CB) Martin Kelly
This former Liverpool youngster is now plying his trade at Crystal Palace, where he has impressed so far this year.
CM) Lucas Leiva
The Brazilian will continue his return from injury by holding down the midfield in Carragher’s team.
CM) Jonjo Shelvey
Always seems to do something special – either wrong or right – at Anfield, and will hope to make a big impact.
RM) Stewart Downing
Never lived up to his price tag with us, but has impressed with West Ham United this season. Something to prove.
LM) Luis Garcia
One of the heroes of our 2005 Champions League run, how Anfield would welcome another Garcia thunderbolt.
ST) Didier Drogba
Not a favourite around Liverpool, but there’s little questioning his credentials. An interesting inclusion.
ST) Craig Bellamy
Works hard, as he did during two spells with us. He’ll be looking to take advantage of some attacking full-backs.
