Speaking about the call-up, the 18-year-old said this week: “It’s amazing to train here because it’s where the first team train every day and where the top players are training, and that is an unbelievable feeling.

“This is a big chance for us as they [manager and staff] trust in us and we can try to step up to the first team and that is our motivation.”

So who is he? Here’s all you need to know about the Reds’ latest prodigy:

8) Canos turned 18 on on February 2nd. He is a versatile forward who, according to our official website, can play both on the right or through the middle as a traditional No. 9.

7) The Spaniard began his footballing career with Barcelona. He joined Liverpool in the summer of 2013, and is still awaiting his first appearance for our first-team. The Catalans were so frustrated to see him leave that they made an appeal to the Spanish FA over the legality of the move.

6) Canos made his debut for Liverpool’s Under-18s in July 2013, competing in a 4-1 victory over Birmingham City in a pre-season friendly. He came on as a second-half substitute and scored the fourth goal.

5) After a battle over international clearance, he made his competitive youth debut in November. He scored his first goal later that month in a 2-0 win over Wolves. He would go on to scored three times in 17 appearances during his first season with the club, before making his Under-21s debut at the start of this season, featuring against Man United.

4) Canos was a huge Valencia supporter growing up, and idolised their former striker David Villa. The 33-year-old, now in the MLS with New York City, scored 128 goals in 217 games for the Spanish giants before moving to Barcelona. He was also an integral part of the Spanish national team that won the World Cup in 2010.

3) His favourite Liverpool player, he says, is Steven Gerrard, who he’ll no doubt be hoping to play with before he leaves us for LA Galaxy at the end of the season – although in reality, this seems unlikely, unless we have nothing to play for in the final few Premier League games of the season.

2) Canos is extremely academic, and had a serious decision to make when he chose to pursue football rather than education. His favourite subject at school was Maths, and if he wasn’t a footballer he’d want to be a physiotherapist.

1) Canos has featured regularly for the Spanish international Under-17 and Under-18’s teams. He claims his ultimate dream is to represent the Spain senior side – and if he managed to do so – he’d join the likes of Luis Garcia, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina as starting Spain players representing Liverpool!
