Brendan Rodgers has recalled Glen Johnson and Dejan Lovren but appears to be sticking with his 3-4-3 formation, with the duo set to partner Mamadou Sakho in defence.

Daniel Sturridge returns to the starting-line up in the only other change from Saturday’s defeat to Arsenal, with Lazar Markovic the man dropping to the bench. Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho will play behind the central striker.

Elsewhere, young Cameron Brannagan keeps his place on the bench, which still has no place for Mario Balotelli. Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini provide the back-up striking options, with Kolo Toure joining them on the sidelines.

Martin Skrtel, Steven Gerrard and Emre Can all miss the game through suspension.

The big news for Blackburn is that star striker Rudy Gestede is only fit enough to make the bench, with Jordan Rhodes instead starting up-front.
