Jamie Carragher names his Premier League Player of the Year

Is Chelsea man the right choice…?

Our legendary former centre-back and now Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has named his Premier League Player of the Year…

Interestingly, he’s gone for Chelsea’s Belgian Eden Hazard, while his former rival and current Chelsea captain John Terry announced last week that he was going for our very own Brazilian maestro Coutinho (via Sky Sports).

“I’d go for (Eden) Hazard,” Carragher said on talkSPORT reported here in the Express.

“I think he’s the best player in the league.

“But while I think he’s been brilliant this season, I don’t think there’s been anyone like Luis Suarez was last season, where it was obvious to everyone. There’s a debate this year.

“Hazard is Chelsea’s best player, and it looks like they’re going to go and win the league. I’d go for him.”

Chelsea are waltzing to the title, and the 24-year-old flyer has scored 12 goals, and assisted a further eight.

As Carragher mentioned though, Hazard’s season as an individual is nowhere near as impressive as Suarez’s was in 2013/14, when the Uruguayan bagged over 30 goals, hit countless assists, and essentially confirmed himself a reputation as one of the all-time top flight geniuses.

Other players this term who can stake a claim for the Player of the Year gong include Tottenham’s young English sensation Harry Kane, Arsenal’s Chilean summer signing Alexis Sanchez and Chelsea’s assist king Cesc Fabregas.

Liverpool’s average season and Coutinho’s modest goal/assist rate means he’s surely unlikely to be a real competitor for the gong this term, although we’d love him to one day receive the country’s highest individual Premier League honour, following in the footsteps of Suarez and Steven Gerrard before him.
