An ‘All-English’ Liverpool XI – Reds boast remarkably impressive Three Lions side

Posted by

Where would this side finish in the Premier League…?

Of all Premier League sides, Liverpool easily has the best group of England players, and this ‘All-English’ side is very strong, bar perhaps the centre of defence.

More than half of this team has won caps for England.

Will we ever deploy a team made England players, under Brendan Rodgers…?

GK) Lawrence Vigouroux

Danny Ward, the keeper who often backs up Simon Mignolet from the bench, is Welsh! So Vigouroux, who usually starts for the Under-21 side, gets our nod ahead of Ryan Fulton. Vigouroux is 21-years-old, has both Chilean and Jamaican routes, and played at Anfield during the All-Star Charity Match.

DR) Glen Johnson

The 30-year-old is not the rampaging right-back he once was, but still walks in our ‘All-England’ XI. Johnson has won  an impressive 54 caps for his country, but with the emergence of Nathaniel Clyne, he’s down the pecking order now.

DC) Andre Wisdom

Wisdom’s on loan at West Brom where he’s currently struggling to get a game, but has strong international pedigree, having skippered the England Under-21 side. He’s predominantly been used as a right-back, but has the attributes to one day develop into a powerful central defender.

DC) Lloyd Jones

Jones nicks the second centre-back spot ahead of fellow reserve player Kevin Stewart. Jones is an England youth international, and has done relatively well during loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Accrington Stanley this term. Interestingly, Tiago Ilori was born in England, and is therefore eligible for the national side, but we haven’t included him in the XI because of his multiple Portugal youth team appearances.

DL) Jon Flanagan

Flanagan has one cap for his country, which he earned on the back of some tremendous form during our charge for the title in 2013/14. Injuries have decimated this campaign sadly, but we’re hoping he renews his contract and is raring to go for next season.
