Intriguing reports claim Liverpool are in the hunt for Chelsea attacker

Would you take this Brazilian star at Anfield next season…?

Brendan Rodgers arguably did his best ever bit of transfer business for Liverpool in January 2013, when he signed Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea in a £12m deal (although many would now argue the £8.5m Coutinho deal of the same month has usurped it…).

Despite Sturridge scoring 24 goals in 96 appearances for the Blues, as well as having a successful loan spell at Bolton, the Blues failed to realise his tremendous potential and the England international became an instant hit at Anfield.

Just over two years on and Sturridge has scored 40 goals in just 66 games for the Reds, while only injury has prevented him from developing into one of the most feared propositions in world football.

Could that ever happen again? Well according to the Daily Mail, it could. They have surprisingly suggested that Liverpool have joined Juventus in the race to sign Chelsea’s Brazilian playmaker Oscar.

The 23-year-old has struggled to hold down his first-team place this season and recent criticism from Jose Mourinho has further enhanced the speculation surrounding his Stamford Bridge future.

As the Mail explains, Chelsea have every intention of strengthening this summer but with Financial Fair Play now firmly in place they may need a high-profile departure to fund their other business.

So would he even be of interest to us, especially considering the Blues would want to make a significant profit on the near £20m they paid Internacional for the player in 2012?

He’s young, good on the ball, with plenty of experience of playing at the top level. He’s perhaps under-appreciated by his current employers, who are holding back his incredible potential with their wealth of alternate options.

The similarities are many between Oscar and Sturridge, as well as another Brazilian midfielder – Philippe Coutinho.

It’s hard to see quite where he’d fit into our team as things stand… but if we ever need a replacement for Raheem Sterling (via the Daily Star) at the top of the midfield diamond then maybe we need not look much further.

Chelsea have proven with their offloading of Juan Mata to Manchester united that they are happy to sell to rivals.
