Outrageous reports claim Liverpool will replace Mario Balotelli with Man United reject

Surely this is just another garbage rumour…

In the last 50 years only three players have played for both Liverpool and Manchester United. They are Michael Owen, Peter Beardsley and Paul Ince. It’s something that never goes down well and is always unlikely to happen.

Nonetheless, the Daily Star have come up with another horrific transfer rumour, this time claiming that the Reds will replace Mario Balotelli with United flop Radamel Falcao during the summer transfer window.

So where to begin with this one… even if you ignore the fact that the Colombian has spent a year at Old Trafford, it’s hard to see why Brendan Rodgers would ever be convinced to spend such huge money on the AS Monaco man.

At 29, he’s not even close to Rodgers’ ideal kind of signing – a young player with bags of potential. He’s spent much of the last two seasons struggling with injuries and has scored just 17 goals in 45 games since leaving Atletico Madrid two years ago.

He’s not necessarily a target man but he’s hardly the speedy, versatile forward Rodgers appears to favour – see Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling etc.

While some might argue this as a good thing, there are surely better – and more importantly cheaper – options available for a back-up striker who can provide a decent ‘plan b’. We don’t want an expensive Rickie Lambert.

To be fair, Falcao’s record in Portugal and Spain was nothing short of outstanding. His 142 goals in just 178 games across a four-season golden period made him one of the most feared players in the world. But that’s in the past.

The Star believes that the Reds would be prepared to take a significant loss on Sampdoria target Balotelli and still pay £25m for Falcao…. don’t worry everyone, we just cannot see this one happening!
