Despite an impending FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa this afternoon, the 20-year-old forward remains at the forefront of much of the national press, who continue to speculate over his ongoing contract dilemma.

And in quotes taken by the Daily Mirror, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed his belief that Liverpool and Manchester United remain the two biggest clubs in the country, adding that City will need 20 years of success before they can hope to reach a similar level.

He said: “I wouldn’t say that Anfield is a development ground for going to bigger clubs. If you say that Manchester City is a bigger club than Liverpool, you’re wrong.

“At this moment in time Manchester City are on a great project. They’re a wonderful club, I’ve seen it for myself a few years ago when I spoke with them.

“I’ve got big respect for what they’re doing there. They’re trying to build it the right way. But at this moment in time you can’t compare them to us.

“You’ve got Liverpool and Manchester United as the two biggest clubs in this country – the rest of them are fighting to be there over the next 20 years.”

While our cup commitments have been stealing the focus this week, we still have a very important battle to fight with City between now and the end of the season as we pursue a top four finish in the Premier League.

Defeats to Arsenal and Manchester Untied looked to have ended our hopes of reaching the promised land of the Champions League for a second successive season but City’s horrendous run of form has opened the door.

We currently sit four points behind them with six games remaining, although they’ll be hoping to extend that advantage today when they take on West Ham United at the Etihad.
