The 22-year-old has not featured for us this season after having surgery. He was nearing a comeback when he played in the All-Stars charity match last month and was set to take part in a friendly at Melwood earlier this week, according to the Liverpool Echo.

However, he was pulled out of the game after a scan revealed fluid around his knee. Fearing that he may have to go under the knife again, the England international visited a specialist in London. Fortunately, the problem is not serious, and Flanagan can continue his comeback.

It will be a boost to the full-back, who may have feared that his contract – which expires at the end of the season – may not be renewed if he failed to prove his fitness. However, the Echo suggest that Brendan Rodgers wants to keep the youngster around.

“He is a big part of the future here. He did remarkably well last year and showed he is player who can play for many years at this level,” the boss said.
