Which two Liverpool stars have done enough to make this team…

Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert might not have lit the world alight at Liverpool so far this season, but the pair have today been recognised in the Football League’s team of the decade.

Both Lallana and Lambert played a crucial role in guiding Southampton from League One to the Premier League, while the latter also starred during spells with Rochdale and Bristol Rovers.

Lallana, 26, has struggled to establish himself in the Liverpool side since his £25m move from the South Coast last summer, largely due to a disrupted season. His debut campaign on Merseyside has been plagued by injury, limiting him to 21 Premier League games.

Lambert, 33, has also failed to hold down a regular first-team berth, but was likely only ever bought as a backup option or impact substitute given his playing style. He’s managed just three goals in 31 games thus far, despite having netted 117 in four-and-a-half-years with the Saints.

As the Liverpool Echo reports, Real Madrid’s former Southampton star Gareth Bale and Swansea City’s Ashley Williams were among the other notable names included.
