Philippe Coutinho leads the list of nominations, with three of his fantastic strikes making onto the shortlist, whilst midfielders Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard have two goals each on the list.

Here is the full rundown of the contenders:

Alberto Moreno vs Tottenham (August)

The Spaniard won the ball on the halfway line, before running the length of the half and unleashing a drilled shot across Hugo Lloris that sealed a 3-0 win at White Hart Lane.

Jordan Rossiter vs Middlesbrough (September)

The 17-year-old announced himself to our first-team with a controlled finish during the thrilling Capital One Cup tie with Middlesbrough. A save from the goalkeeper saw the ball fly out to the midfielder, who calmly returns it into the back of the net from nearly 30 yards.

Steven Gerrard vs Everton (September)

After a goalless first hour during what would become his final Merseyside derby at Anfield, Steven Gerrard opened the scoring with an excellent free-kick from just outside the area, that Tim Howard could only get to once it had crossed the line.

Adam Lallana vs West Brom (October)

After some unbelievable pieces of skill, the former Southampton man played a rapid one-two with Jordan Henderson on the edge of the area. Lallana’s next touch allowed him to get away from the defenders, and rifle the ball past Ben Foster.

Steven Gerrard vs Basel (December)

With our backs on the ropes in this Champions League clash, there was only one man who seemed convinced that we could still get ourselves in a position to progress to the knockout phase. Steven Gerrard hit another perfect free-kick late on in the clash, that curled sublimely into the top corner.

Raheem Sterling vs Chelsea (January)

The winger received the ball closer to his own half than the Chelsea goal. However, he used his speed to dance through the defence, and guide a shot past a helpless Thibaut Courtois.

Philippe Coutinho vs Bolton (February)

The Brazilian’s purple patch arguably began with this fine effort in stoppage time during the FA Cup tie with Bolton. He used his quick feet to gain a yard from the defender closing him down, before unleashing a powerful strike that cannoned off the bar and went in to break Bolton’s hearts.

Philippe Coutinho vs Southampton (February)

Give him space at your peril. Coutinho is given the ball around thirty-five yards out, but the distance fails to put him off. And he hits a shot that powerfully flies into the goal, once again using the crossbar on its way.

Jordan Henderson vs Manchester City (March)

Oddly, it was fortunate that the stand-in skipper took a poor first touch, as he failed to get the ball out of his way, and thus was closed down. Henderson had to cut inside, but hit an effort that curled from well wide into the top corner.

Philippe Coutinho vs Manchester City (March)

Like Henderson’s opener earlier in the match, Coutinho’s strike saw the goalkeeper cut inside before curling an effort round Joe Hart. However, the 22-year-old’s strike came from a much acuter angle.

Jordan Henderson vs Burnley (March)

Three days after the Manchester City win, Henderson was at it again with the first goal in the win against Burnley. Incredibly, the strike from the edge of the box eerily resembled Steven Gerrard’s famous goal against Olympiakos over a decade ago.
