Hull City 1-0 Liverpool – player ratings – look away now, Reds…

Liverpool lost 1-0 away to Hull City tonight, with Michael Dawson grabbing the winner.

It means Hull are probably staying up, and we’re probably playing Europa League football next year.

Here’s how we rated the players…

22 Mignolet – 7/10

It’s almost heartbreaking, but Mignolet’s very close to our best player. Try telling that to Liverpool fans in 2013/14. Another solid showing, including one superb save. How much would we be struggling without him…?

23 Can – 6/10

The christening of Emre Can as ‘Steven Gerrard’s natural heir’ was perhaps a little naive. We know how talented he is, but the German is looking increasingly worse in defence. Let’s judge him when he gets to play centrally.

37 Skrtel – 7/10

One of the better, certainly. The Slovakian deserves a new contract, and on tonight’s showing, is one of the few players that does.

06 Lovren (Markovic – 76′ ) 5/10

One of his better displays, which says more about the rest of his than anything. Didn’t make a single tackle in the second-half.

02 Johnson – 4/10

All a Liverpool fan has to do is check Twitter to see the reaction to the ‘England international’s’ performance… Continually cut inside and gave the ball away. This performance probably confirms why he won’t be signing a new Anfield deal.

14 Henderson – 5/10

Played a captain’s role in that he was extremely vocal, and definitely put the effort in (as he always does). Creatively? Lacking.

24 Allen – 7/10

Put in some tackles, and helped us keep possession. In the absence of Steven Gerrard, Allen did well – although when you do well in an away defeat to Hull, you haven’t done that well.

10 Coutinho – 7/10

Along with Mignolet and Allen, our Brazilian playmaker (quickly becoming our best player by a very long distance) was one of the few bright sparks of a miserable evening. Toiled, and if his team-mates were on his level, his creativity might have led to more chances.

33 Ibe (Lallana – 65′ ) – 5/10

Wonderful talent, and someone that excites us hugely. He had a stinker. Let’s leave it at that. We’re not going to plant any blame on a 19-year-old who was playing Championship football for half of this season.

45 Balotelli (Lambert – 65′ ) – 5/10

The Italian was given his second start in as many games, but he’s doing his chances of staying no good whatsoever. Pulled at 65′, and rightly so. Doesn’t contribute. Doesn’t move. Doesn’t help.

31 Sterling – 4/10

£100k-per-week? No. Not on this showing, Raheem. Not good enough. At all. Sterling didn’t take the game by the scruff of the neck when we truly needed him to. Never have we missed the dynamic forward play that he actually does have in the locker more.
