Brendan Rodgers wants marquee signings at Liverpool after disappointing display

While our 13 match unbeaten run – which stretched from December to March – brought us into contention for qualifying for next season’s Champions League, one win in our last five Premier League encounters has left us seven points adrift of Manchester United, with just four games to go.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Rodgers believes that just a couple of quality additions will elevate the side both on and off the pitch, and thus will make sure that in twelve months time, we are the ones comfortably inside the top four as the season winds to a conclusion.

“For supporters, and for players themselves, it is always great if you can get in those marquee players that can really help you.

“And I think we can see that that’s the type, maybe the one or two players, that we need,” he said.

With no goals in our last two games, and with Daniel Sturridge’s injury worries continuing, there is little doubt where our problem area lies.

As we all know, Liverpool lost over 50 Premier League goals from last season thanks to the sale of Luis Suarez and absence of Sturridge, and fixing that will stand us in good stead.

The defence hasn’t always looked amazing this season, but we have only conceded a goal more than Manchester City, and three more than Man Utd.

If Brendan Rodgers wants to turn our fortunes around, then his number one priority is to find the goalscorer the team needs.
