According to the Metro, the 24-year-old is expecting to leave his current club Real Madrid at the end of the season, where he has spent the last 13 years, having come through the youth ranks.

Despite featuring for their youth sides, the international has yet to play for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, and has spent much of his career out on loan. He spent last season at Sevilla, but failed to make an impact at the club. This term he has had a little more success, making over 20 La Liga appearances for Villarreal, and scoring four goals.

Arguably, this deal represents a similar amount of risk to a potential deal for Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie, who, according to the Daily Mirror, is also attracting the attention of Brendan Rodgers.

Like the Congolese midfielder, Cherysev is not exactly young, and has yet to prove himself at the highest level. Therefore, for such a fee, the Russian would have to do a lot to prove that he represents good value for money.
