Jordon Ibe impressively 5th in Liverpool’s ‘Top 10 pass completion percentage’ table

These stats from WhoScored.com prove that our defenders aim to play simple passes from the back, whilst the ones from out more creative players have often failed to reach required targets…

Is Liverpool FC Making Progress? An Analysis of Performance Since 1990

Here’s the pass success rate from Premier League matches this campaign.

10) Glen Johnson 82.9%

The right-back’s poor performance in Tuesday’s defeat to Hull may well be one of his last for the club with his contract coming to an end in the summer.

9) Emre Can 83%

Although he is starting to look jaded after a long season, Emre Can has been a revelation for much of the campaign. His transition from his previous position as a midfielder to a regular member of the back line has helped to develop attacks right from deep.

8) Steven Gerrard 85.6%

The fact that Gerrard regularly tries to spray longer passes makes his inclusion in this list impressive.

7) Dejan Lovren 85.9%

Of our natural centre-halves, Lovren’s passing stats are the worst. It’s been a ropey debut Liverpool season for the Croat, but we’re not giving up on him just yet.

6) Lucas Leiva 86.7%

The 28-year-old is clearly able to retain possession once he has won the ball back from the opposition. His passes often lack creativity, however.

5) Jordon Ibe 87.3%

The most encouraging member on the list. If the winger can develop on the potential he has shown since his emergence into the first-team, then it could be of great benefit to the strikers he will be feeding.

4) Joe Allen 87.8%

Had a reputation as an excellent distributor of the ball when he arrived from Swansea in 2012, and has seemingly backed that up since. It would arguably be good however to see the Welshman be a little more adventurous with his passing.

3) Kolo Toure 88.8%

It was his tireless effort, rather than his passing ability, in the Bernabeu in the Champions League that will arguably be the abiding memory of the 34-year-old’s season.

2) Mamadou Sakho 89.5%

After a tough start to the season, the Frenchman is demonstrating with regularity the key components of someone who is confident on the ball. His composure has made him a valuable asset as we look to create attacks from defence.

1) Martin Skrtel 90.1%

He may not represent the glamour of some of the players in our squad, but his consistency should have made it fairly obvious that he would be high on the list. In fact, the 30-year-old centre-back is currently fifth in the entire Premier League for passing success.
