PSV sporting director says we are ‘a step ahead’ of Man United in Memphis Depay chase

Another day, another indicator that we’re well and truly in the race for PSV starlet Memphis Depay…

This time, Goal have reported that PSV sporting director Marcel Brands has claimed that French behemoths PSG and ourselves are leading the race for the attacker’s signature, ahead of our hated rivals Manchester United.

Depay has well and truly developed his otherworldly potential this season, scoring 21 goals in the Eredivisie to currently lead the top scorers charts and secure his side the title already.

“PSG and Liverpool are indeed a step ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Memphis. United have only informed us about their interest,” Brands told Fox Sports.

“The list of interested clubs has grown in recent weeks but Bayern Munich are not among the teams that want to sign him.

“It’s only logical that there is a lot of movement around Memphis. He is still a young player but is already hugely efficient. He should be proud of that.

“There isn’t usually a lot of movement in the transfer market at this stage of the season. It’s an exception that so many clubs have already shown an interest in Memphis.

“That only illustrates that he’s on the right track.”

The news is exciting, and it would be fantastic to beat United to such a talented young attacker, considering their financial pull and probable attraction of Champions League football next season.

Depay is exactly what we need. He scores goals, is rapid, and uses his skill in a direct fashion – which would add purpose and vigour to our attack.

Whether we’d actually be able to beat PSG to his signature is another matter, of course. Like United, they can offer yearly Champions League football – and enormous wages.

We’re crossing out fingers.
