Rangers started the game on top and might have led within a minute. Watch as Leroy Fer gets in front of his marker from a corner, only to have his goal ruled out, with the ball adjudged to be out of play.

Thankfully, that man again was there for Liverpool to set things straight – the one and only Philippe Coutinho!

Rickie Lambert created the chance, squaring the ball across the box to the Brazilian, who cut back in on his right foot before curling the ball beyond the diving Rob Green. Unstoppable!

Watch it from two fantastic angles below:

Raheem Sterling briefly thought he’d made it two before the break, only for the referees whistle to deny him. As you can see, the youngster clearly strayed offside when the ball was played…

The Reds started the second-half the way they finished the first, well on top and pushing forward in search of a second goal. Steven Gerrard came as close as anyone to finding the next, rifling a shot narrowly wide of the target.

Despite all our control, Rangers got their equaliser out of absolutely nothing. Joey Barton swung in the corner and Leroy Fer slams home from around the penalty spot. Poor marking from the set piece, it has to be said.

We were given a golden opportunity to restore our lead just five minutes later, after Martin Skrtel was hauled down. Gerrard couldn’t take advantage however, with Green getting across to push the ball way.

The Reds continued to press forward and having already given away the penalty, Nedum Onuoha received his marching orders. The defender received a second yellow card for this hideous challenge on Jordon Ibe.

We soon made the man advantage count. Gerrard making up for missing the penalty by heading home from close range – escaping the attentions of Joey Barton and Bobby Zamora following Coutinho’s corner.
