Best available free transfer XI: including Fiorentina goalkeeper and Manchester City man

While Brendan Rodgers has previously spoken about the need for marquee signings in the summer, he would surely be a bit foolish not to look towards some of the players that will be available for nothing at the end of the season. Some of the men that are set to leave their current club on a free would add some serious – and much-needed – depth to our squad, which will hopefully help our chances of cementing a place in the Premier League’s top four.

Here is an XI made up of the best players that will be available for nothing in the coming months, with news circulating that we’re considering both James Milner and Neto – both of whom make this side…

GK- Neto (Fiorentina)

The 25-year-old has been excellent for the majority of the season for Fiorentina, so it is no surprise that the Metro have suggested we may be hoping to sign the Brazilian as a replacement for Brad Jones, who himself is out of contract this summer. Simon Mignolet will probably benefit from having more competition.

RB- Dani Alves (Barcelona)

Alves has been a tremendous servant for the Catalan side, winning practically everything available to him during his stint. Amazingly – given the amount of time he’s been around for – he’s still only 31, so has plenty of time ahead of him.

CB- Andrea Ranocchia (Inter Milan)

The 27-year-old was made captain at Inter Milan at the start of the season, and is a strong force at the heart of Roberto Mancini’s defence, but may be seeking a new challenge after four years at San Siro.

CB- Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa)

The Dutchman has been an important part of Tim Sherwood’s plans at Villa Park, and has led the revival from the brink of relegation to a position where they now look like they should now survive, should they continue playing in the same manner they have done for the past few weeks.

LB- Christian Fuchs (Schalke)

With 25 appearances under his belt this season, Fuchs will be an unfortunate miss for the Bundesliga side, should he fail to agree an extension to his stay in Germany. He has four league assists this campaign, so can create goals as well as prevent them.
