According to the Daily Mirror, Jose Mourinho has lined up the 33-year-old as a potential replacement for Didier Drogba, who is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer, and therefore, may be leaving the club for a second time.

The former Southampton man has certainly struggled to make an impact since his move to Anfield at the beginning of the season, so it is unlikely that his departure will be greatly mourned. However, he has proved that – mostly for his former club, unfortunately – given the opportunity, he is able to step up and adapt his game.

During Saturday’s game with Queens Park Rangers, in a situation where many strikers, who were deemed out of form would panic and shoot, Lambert showed composure to pick out Philippe Coutinho, who was clearly in the best position. The Brazilian was able to take advantage of the opportunity, and put us ahead.

In truth though, we can’t see any real reason why Mourinho wouldn’t chase more attractive targets.
