Alexandre Lacazette had previously seemed determined to continue his meteoric rise at current club Lyon…

However, he has now left the departure door slightly open, and Brendan Rodgers needs to make sure he’s the one who pulls him through it.

The 23-year-old’s finishing is exceptional. He is seven clear of his nearest rival at the top of the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts, and is the top scorer across Europe with the exception of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. If there was one player who could solve our problems in front of goal, then surely it is the Frenchman.

According to the Metro, Lacazette suggested that he was happy with his current side, but is reaching an age where he needs to consider where is best for his development.

“I am good here, but after that I need to think about my progression, the future,”

“We will see at the end of the season,” he said.

Unsurprisingly, given the lack of young strikers with his potential around, there is likely to be a large queue of admirers hoping to prise him away, many of which will be able to offer Champions League football. However, the forward appears to be relatively aware of what is best for his career, holding off a move until he’d reached his peak in France, before moving on to a stage befitting of his talent.

The Premier League is certainly a worthy stage, where he would not have to deal with the politics that are synonymous with the big hitters in Spain. Hopefully, he is willing to look at the project that is being put together at Anfield, and realise that he would become the lynchpin of the side should he join.
