Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has backed Philippe Coutinho to walk away with Liverpool’s Player of the Season award, when our team’s various successes are recognised later this month.

Coutinho, who has already been voted into the PFA Team of the Year and been nominated for both the player and young player of the season awards, has clearly been our stand-out player so far this season.

His goal against Queens Park Rangers last Saturday was the latest in a long line of brilliant moments for the Brazilian so far this season, taking his goal tally to eight in all competitions.

Having also registered eight assists – the latest of which also came last weekend, the corner for Steven Gerrard’s winner – there is little debating his influence on this Liverpool team. At just 22, his potential is simply mouthwatering.

Speaking with our official website earlier this week, Fowler explained just why Coutinho is the correct choice for the award. He said: “The stand-out player this year has probably been Philippe Coutinho, I’d be surprised if he didn’t win it. He has scored goals.

“As a forward, I loved playing with players like that because you knew that you were going to get a few chances in a game. He is one of those players that can open up defences; ultimately, the forward players have got to be helping him but he certainly helps the forwards.

“He puts the ball into certain positions where you think it is impossible at times, and some of his footwork in creating space for himself is a joy to watch. It’s a match made in heaven for any player who plays up front for Liverpool when you’ve got a player that talented behind you.”

We can’t argue with Fowler’s choice, and we can’t imagine many other Liverpool fans would either. Coutinho will play for Brazil at this summer’s Copa America, and it’d be great for the world to see what we get a chance to every week.
