We still fully expect Martin Skrtel to put pen to paper on a new long-term Liverpool contract, as we’ve been promised on multiple occasions, with the defender openly keen to stay at Anfield (via the Daily Star).

However, we learned earlier this week that Skrtel has stalled over signing a new three-year deal, due to the fact that he’s unhappy with a clause in his new contract which requires him to play a minimum number of games to earn his full wage (via the Daily Mail).

Reports in Italy (via the Liverpool Echo), are now claiming that Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini wants to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding the Slovakian’s future by making a last-ditch bid for his services.

Skrtel’s current contract expires at the end of next season and Brendan Rodgers may now be forced to give up on his ideal list of terms for the player’s extension. Inter’s interest means that we no longer hold all the aces – as the Echo puts it – and it’s more likely that some sort of compromise will be reached to ensure that we get the deal done.
