Liverpool scout names three academy players who’ll soon be in first-team

These quotes from Liverpool’s chief scout in Spain David Vizcaíno will only increase the hype surrounding young central midfielder Pedro Chirivella…

Vizcaíno reckons that he, along with Sergi Canos and Madger, are developing so quickly that they’ll soon be very much part of Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans.

Chirivella has been dubbed ‘The next Xabi Alonso’, and back in November was even linked with European behemoths Real Madrid (via the Daily Mail).

“In very little time we will see Pedro Chirivella, Sergi Canos or Madger in the first team, and some of them playing regularly,” Vizcaíno told Spanish daily Marca, reported in the Mirror.

“Just talking about Pedro Chirivella gives me goosebumps. In England there would have to be 100 Pedro Chirivellas in order to revolutionise English football. Chirivella is football, he is intelligence, control, technique, personality. I expect great things from him.”

To be fair, hearing Vizcaíno’s quotes will give Liverpool fans goosebumps, too. Chirivella is a technically exceptional central midfielder, who prides himself on his passing and ability to retain possession in tight areas – much like some of the better known Spanish midfielders currently dominating European football.

It will be great to see him fulfil his potential, although it’s very hard for a young player to get into a big team in such a pivotal position…

Sergi Canos and Madger are less lauded, and play in wide attacking positions.

Brendan Rodgers has shown with his handling of Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe in the past that he’s more than happy to give these kind of players a chance, so we can be sure that if the pair are good enough, they’ll get given the opportunity to shine.
