Liverpool’s academy XI – best possible team suggests bright future for the Reds

The Reds have some wonderful young players waiting for their shot at the first-team. Jerome Sinclair was included among the substitutes against Chelsea on Sunday, while on the same day reports emerged complimenting a trio of Sinclair’s fellow academy players.

However, due to the customary procession of loan deals that have dominated our academy team this season, we’ve rarely seen them all together. Even without a number of their big names, our Under-21 side currently sit second in their Premier League table.

Below, we select our best possible Liverpool academy team. Look through the pages below to check out the quality we have on offer. There is no room for the likes of Samed Yesil, Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent, but there are elven wonderful players who could be eyeing a call-up from Brendan Rodgers in the near future…

GK) Lawrence Vigouroux

Signed a new two-year contract last week. Has impressed this season after joining from Tottenham last summer. Played in the Anfield Charity match back in March and could find himself moving up the pecking order next year.

RB) Ryan McLaughlin

A Northern Ireland international, having been capped twice. His first appearance made him the first Reds star to play for the country in 78 years. He made his professional debut during a loan spell with Barnsley last season.

LB) Brad Smith

Made his professional debut for Liverpool last season, coming on as a substitute during the defeat at Stamford Bridge. Has played ten times on loan at Swindon Town this season. He’s also a four-time Australia international.

CB) Lloyd Jones

Has spent time with both Cheltenham Town and Accrington Stanley in League Two this season. A current England Under-20 international, the tall and powerful defender has been the captain of our reserve team for two years.

CB) Jordan Williams

A midfielder by trade, who is also capable of playing at the back. Has spent time on loan with Notts County this season and has won caps at youth team level for Wales. Played in the League Cup win over Middlesbrough.

DM) Pedro Chirivella

Plucked from the ranks of Valencia’s youth side in 2013. He’s been favourably compared with Spain and Barcelona man Sergio Busquets. Still only 17, he’s progressed quickly through the ranks and has been tipped for greatness.

CM) Jordan Rossiter

Shot to prominence by scoring the opening goal against Middlesbrough last year. Has not featured since unfortunately, although an injury picked up during an FA Youth Cup tie in February was partly to blame for that.

CM) Cameron Brannagan

Has been among our substitutes on a number of occasions this season. Has also shone for the reserves, scoring an excellent goal against Leicester recently. A versatile attacking player who loves to push forward and join the attack.

RW) Sergi Canos

The former Barcelona starlet has been on top form this season. A versatile forward who can also play through the middle, the Spanish youth team international is quick and powerful and could be fine addition to the first-team.

LW) Sheyi Ojo

A player very much in the Raheem Sterling or Jordon Ibe mould. He impressed while on loan at Wigan Athletic earlier this season, playing 11 times in their unsuccessful survival bid. Still only 17, with a bright future ahead.

ST) Jerome Sinclair

Has been scoring for fun for the Under-21s this season. Also spent time on loan at Wigan earlier this season but didn’t get as much of a look in. Made his League Cup debut for the Reds way back in 2012, against West Brom.
