Steven Gerrard has proved with his performances, and contributions in the past two games that we are going miss him immensely. His failure to feature as predominately as he has done throughout his career had suggested that it was the right time for him to go, before the incredible legacy he’ll leave behind got tarnished by a disappointing campaign. But, now letting him go seems a foolish mistake.

His goals against Queens Park Rangers and Chelsea – while ultimately in vain in the hope of guiding us to Champions League football – highlighted his continued importance, and his ability to pull us towards success.
His continued contribution to the club has left former Liverpool striker John Aldridge wondering how we go about beginning to fill his massive shoes, the Liverpool Echo report. And the only conclusion he could come to, is that spending big in the summer is the answer.
“The Premier League clubs have got more money now with £100million guaranteed and Liverpool have got to spend it,” he explained.
“They should have been saving up a Piggy Bank for the day Stevie goes to go out and break their transfer record of £35million to bring in a replacement of some sort,” he said.
Unfortunately, after a difficult campaign, the tough job now facing Brendan Rodgers is how much of the transfer funds goes on trying to replace the irreplaceable. Aldridge believes that finding to take the mantle from our skipper is not the only challenge facing the manager.
“There’s an extra £40million with television rights and for me that has to go on the pitch along with whatever we can get for the players out on loan like Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto,” he added.
“We need a top striker – maybe two – and probably a top midfielder,” Aldridge said.
He is, however, backing some of the players that have experienced challenging first years with the club to come good next season, once they have been allowed to settle to the Liverpool way.
“Hopefully those who came in last summer will have settled in too. The likes of Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana who I still think will come good,” he said.
